Jukhtavank Monastery is situated in the Tavush region, about an hour and a half drive from Yerevan. It’s located in the heart of Dilijan National Park, surrounded by lush forests and quiet mountain trails. There is an accessible short hiking trail that leads to the monastery. The walk usually takes 30 to 40 minutes.
The name Dzhukhtak comes from the Armenian word dzhukht, which means “couple” or “pair.” The monastery was named this way because it originally consisted of two churches — St. Grigor, named after the first Armenian Catholicos, Gregory the Illuminator, and St. Astvatsatsin, the Holy Mother of God.

Jukhtak Monastery dates back to the 11th–12th centuries. Today, both churches are partially in ruins. Restoration work has been minimal, but despite the damage, the site remains historically authentic.
Just so you know, there are no facilities available near the monastery, so please be prepared when visiting.
