Aramyants Castle was built at the end of the 19th century in the north of Armenia, in the Lori region, near Akhtala Castle — about a 3-hour drive from Yerevan.

This is one of only two castles built in Armenia in the 1900s. The second is located in Vanadzor and used to belong to the Tairov family. The Aramyants family castle is included in the state list of immovable monuments of history and culture, and in 2016 it officially received the status of a historical and cultural monument by government decree.

The territory of the castle originally belonged to a Georgian prince named Baratov, who was known as a famous gambler of his time. When he lost the land, the estate was auctioned by the bank. Mikayel Aramyants paid the bank interest and purchased the estate.

Aramyants was a well-known oil industrialist and philanthropist, founder of the National Benevolent Society in Tbilisi. He was also a close friend and colleague of Alexander Mantashyan.

The castle was considered a unique and luxurious residence for its time. Famous Armenian writer Hovhannes Tumanyan and even Catholicos Khrimyan Hayrik spent time here for rest and leisure. Aramyants also built the first Armenian tennis court near the castle. In the Soviet era the castle was repurposed as a sanatorium — a health resort and rest facility.

Today, the castle is private property, but it remains open for tourist visits.
